The meeting in 2010 is projected to be one of the largest for BMES, and certainly one of the most informative in terms of scientific
sessions and professional networking. There will be several new features at the 2010 meeting, including a "Meet-the-Faculty-Candidates" poster session on Wednesday
afternoon just before the meeting starts (mark your calendars!) and a special keynote speakers session featuring several leaders in the field who will speculate on the future of Biomedical Engineering.

The Friday night event is sure to be a memorable one! The event will take place at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, which is located near the Texas State Capitol Building and The University of Texas at Austin. The museum houses 33,000 square feet of interactive exhibits that detail the history of this unique state. All attendees at the event are encouraged to visit the Texas Spirit Theater to experience a thrilling journey as Texas history comes to life. The unbelievable technology of the Texas Spirit Theater creates an astonishing adventure.

Featuring three stages, theater sets and an amazing array of special effects, the theater offers a one-of-a-kind experience that will leave you breathless. We plan to have Texas-style fajitas and BBQ, Austin's famous Amy's ice cream, live Austin music, and some special surprises (did someone say "Longhorn"?).

In Summary…
Professional reasons to attend the BMES 2010 Annual Meeting in Austin:
• Projected to be the largest BMES conference in history
• Convention center layout is more centralized to facilitate networking opportunities
• New "Meet-the-Faculty-Candidates" poster session on Wednesday
• New Keynote Speakers session to highlight the future of BME
• Free wireless internet throughout the convention center
• Many opportunities for students to get involved by volunteering (and
saving costs on registration)
Additional reasons to attend the BMES 2010 Annual Meeting in Austin:
• Memorable Friday Night event
• Live Music Capital with many downtown live music venues
• Great weather!
• Family-friendly atmosphere (and fun for singles too!)
• Austin is home to many exciting points of interest (the LBJ Presidential
Library, the Ransom Center, the Blanton Museum, the Congress Avenue Bat Bridge, Austin's Famous 6th
Street, the Austin Children's Museum, Barton Springs and Zilker Park, and many more!)

• Austin is also within a short drive to other unique site-seeing opportunities (e.g., Sea World, which is one of only three in the US, is only 1.5 hours away, and NASA's Johnson Space Center is only 2.5 hours away)

We look forward to seeing you in Austin in 2010!!
(the call for volunteer reviewers and session organizers is forthcoming)

http://www.biohouston.org/en/cev/209 Wed, 06 Oct 2010 13:00:00 GMT Events http://www.biohouston.org/en/cev/146 Biomedical Engineering Society
 Biomedical Engineering Society
Start Date: 6-Oct-10 8:30 AM
End Time: 9-Oct-10 5:30 PM

http://www.biohouston.org/en/cev/146 Wed, 06 Oct 2010 13:30:00 GMT Events http://www.biohouston.org/en/cev/101 Individual Sponsor
 Individual Sponsor
Start Date: 11-Sep-48 11:30 AM
End Time: 11-Sep-48 1:30 PM
Location: Crystal Ballroom at the Rice Hotel, Houston, TX 77002
Event Details:

2008 Annual Luncheon

Bringing Research to Life

Dr. Elsa Murano

Texas A&M University

September 11, 2008

11:30 AM - 1:30 PM

The Crystal Ballroom at The Rice

909 Texas Ave.

Houston, TX 77002

The upcoming BioHouston annual luncheon, Bringing Research to Life, will feature the new Texas A&M President, Dr. Elsa Murano, as our speaker. Research, particularly in the rapidly expanding life sciences, is the cornerstone in Texas A&M’s quest to become a top-10 public institution by 2020. The impact of this aggressive initiative by the Aggies is far-reaching, as well as critical in expanding the intellectual capital of the state.
Dr. Murano began her professorial career in 1990 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Preventative Medicine at Iowa State, the position she held prior to joining the Texas A&M faculty. She received a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Florida International University, and earned both a master's degree in anaerobic microbiology and a doctorate in food science and technology from Virginia Tech. Dr. Murano is the first woman and first Hispanic-American to lead the oldest public institution of higher learning in Texas—now one of the largest teaching and research universities in the nation.

Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit BioHouston’s initiatives to build the region’s biotech industry, creating medical breakthroughs that will transform health care, improve lives, and create economic growth.

For questions regarding sponsorship or event information, contact Keisha Curtis at 713-979-9212 or <span mailto:keisha.curtis@biohouston.org?>keisha.curtis@biohouston.org

Crystal Ballroom at the Rice Hotel

909 Texas Ave.
Houston, TX US 77002

http://www.biohouston.org/en/cev/101 Fri, 11 Sep 2048 16:30:00 GMT
